Foster-Adopt Training: Independent Study
Our desire at A New Beginning is to prepare adoptive parents to understand and meet the needs of their child(ren). We recognize that learning is an ongoing process and therefore, we are providing you with foundational information, some things to consider, and tools to help you begin to build your parenting “tool belt.”
We have broken your independent training into three sections: Developmental Journeys, Trauma Informed Parenting, and Openness, Culture, and Identity. This training will prepare you for the discussions and exercises we will be doing at the virtual training. We encourage you to answer the questions and jot down any thoughts or questions you have.
Please take advantage of this time to prepare yourself for the journey that is ahead. This foundation will help you better understand your child(ren), the places they come from and where you can help them grow and go forward when they join your family. You are on the path to make a tremendous difference in the life of a child from hard places.
As you begin this independent training, let’s start by getting a better understanding about the children in foster care and what they have gone through before getting to your home. It is important to understand where these kids come from and keep this in mind as you proceed through training. Knowledge leads to understanding which can lead to hope and healing.
