If you’re reading this, you might be feeling the same mix of emotions I once felt – fear, love, confusion, hope. I remember searching online, trying to find someone who had been where I was. I didn’t know what to call myself yet. All I knew was that I was pregnant, I loved my baby, and I wasn’t sure I could give them the life I wanted them to have.
I want to share my story – not because it will look exactly like yours, but because I hope it helps you feel less alone as you explore what adoption could mean for you.
When My Pregnancy Wasn’t Planned
My pregnancy wasn’t something I expected. At first, I was scared and overwhelmed. I thought about parenting and asked myself if I was truly ready. The honest answer was no – not at that point in my life. It wasn’t about whether I loved my child (I did, deeply). It was about whether I could provide the stability and future I wanted for them.
Wanting More for My Baby
I pictured what I wanted for my baby – security, opportunities, and a safe, steady home. I knew in my heart that I couldn’t provide all of that at the time. That’s when I began learning about adoption. I realized adoption wasn’t about “giving up.” It was about giving more. More stability. More love. More opportunity.
Finding a Way Forward
Choosing adoption also gave me space to continue working toward my own goals. I wanted to start building a life where I could one day be in a stronger place. Adoption allowed me to give my child what they needed while still continuing my own journey.
Support Along the Way
The process wasn’t easy. There were days filled with doubt and sadness. But I wasn’t alone. I found support through my adoption agency, and later, through the family I chose for my baby. In open adoption, I’ve been able to see my child grow, receive updates, and know without a doubt that they are loved and thriving.
A Choice Made Out of Love
Placing my baby for adoption was the hardest decision I’ve ever made – but also the most loving one. My choice came from a place of wanting the very best for them. Even though it broke my heart, I know it also opened the door to a future full of love and opportunity for my child.
