Empowered to Care – Skills Group

December 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm MST

Empowered to Care is an online parent support group providing a safe, understanding, and encouraging space for parents of adoptees and foster children, often referred to as “children from hard places.” These children may have experienced trauma, loss, neglect, or disrupted attachments, and parenting them can bring unique joys and challenges.

The Skills Group is a structured, educational group designed to help parents learn and practice specific parenting tools for supporting adoptees and foster children who have experienced trauma, loss, or disrupted attachment. Led by a TBRI®-trained therapist, this group focuses on teaching trauma-informed strategies.

Parents in the Skills Group receive direct instruction, practical examples, and guided discussion around core topics such as:

  • Building secure attachment and trust
  • Understanding trauma-based behaviors
  • Helping children regulate emotions and sensory needs
  • Responding to challenging behaviors with connection rather than punishment

The Skills Group is ideal for parents who want hands-on tools, structure, and clear guidance they can immediately apply at home. While peer connection naturally occurs, the primary goal is skill-building, learning, and growing confidence through evidence-based strategies.
