I have spent most of my adult life working with children and their families. It’s been a sort of love affair, giving me joy and fulfillment in helping others in need.
I have spent most of my adult life working with children and their families. It’s been a sort of love affair, giving me joy and fulfillment in helping others in need. I have worked as a children’s treatment counselor in a residential treatment facility where I saw the haunted looks of children abused and abandoned by their family members.
I also worked with the state of Texas as a Child Protection Specialist. Unfortunately, I had to remove many children but I gave hope and help where I could. I also placed children in foster and adoptive homes.
When I finished my Masters degree and moved to Oregon, I started working with children and families as a Mental Health Counselor. Those children were also involved with the state. Many of the kids were in foster care and needed assistance overcoming the shadows of their abusive pasts. I loved the redirection and seeing the light of hope shining in their eyes as they progressed day by day.
Then I was offered my dream job of working in adoptions with the State of Oregon. Every day was a joy and a challenge. I met couples who had been trying for years to conceive and adopting through the state was the only way they would ever achieve their dreams of having children.
After five years, I got married and decided to become an at home mom and foster parent. I still help out occasionally in teaching the foster/adoption classes with Linn and Benton County. My heart will always belong to the children who need homes and families.
